Keeping Customs Alive

Another beautiful thing about Switzerland is that the people work very hard to keep their customs alive. They dress in traditional costumes whevener they can and still practice intricate lacework and other "hand-arbeit" or hand-work crafts.

Bobbin lace! That is the most beautiful example I've ever seen. Not many people have the skill to do it. I don't but I do love to see this. Is it a common skill there I wondor.

Finally, a name to go with this craft! There was a stand at this local festival in my village and perhaps about 5 or 6 different women were showing their craft. They had some sample ones set up so young girls could give it a try. Thank you for writing!

My pleasure to visit your blog and enjoy the tour! Forgot to mention that I know of another lady who is wonderfully talented and can make bobbin lace. Her name is Helene and I linked to her on my page (as I did you). She is in Norway. Its great to see skills like that being kept alive instead of dying out with the older generation.
